Supporting Autoimmune Health: How I Help Clients Alongside Conventional Treatments

Living with an autoimmune disease can feel overwhelming. I know this firsthand-I also live with an autoimmune condition. When I was first diagnosed, I struggled to find the support, guidance, and personalized care I needed. That experience inspired me to help others who are navigating similar challenges. Today, I love supporting people with autoimmune diseases in creating individualized, holistic plans that reduce symptoms, improve energy, and restore balance.

As a certified functional medicine nurse, nutrition coach, and personal trainer, I bring a holistic approach that addresses both root causes and daily lifestyle factors. My goal is to help clients support their bodies through lifestyle, functional medicine strategies, and alternative therapies—all while respecting and complementing conventional medical care.

A Comprehensive 1.5-Hour Health Intake

Every new client begins with a 1.5-hour health intake, where we dive deep into:

  • Medical history and current treatments

  • Autoimmune symptoms and flare patterns

  • Nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress habits

  • Environmental exposures and other potential triggers

  • Trauma history and stress assessment

As part of your intake, we conduct a trauma/stress assessment, a gut health and nutrient evaluation, and a standard hormone assessment. This allows us to identify how past and current stressors, digestive imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, and hormonal factors may be contributing to inflammation, fatigue, or other symptoms. Combined with optional lab testing and integrated app tracking, this ensures a truly holistic, data-driven, and personalized plantailored to your body and lifestyle.

Lifestyle-Based Strategies

Lifestyle changes are a cornerstone of autoimmune support, including:

  • Nutrition – Personalized anti-inflammatory and gut-supportive strategies to reduce flares.

  • Movement & Exercise – Gentle, effective programs designed to support mobility, strength, and energy without triggering fatigue. Weight lifting is used strategically to improve metabolic health, support joint function, and optimize energy, all while reducing the risk of flare-ups.

  • Stress Management – Mindfulness and meditative techniques to calm the nervous system.

  • Sleep Optimization – Evidence-based strategies to improve rest and recovery.

  • Blood sugar stabilization using optional CGM (continuous glucose monitor) integration

Tracking gut, nutrient, hormone, and metabolic data allows us to adjust your plan in real time, so every intervention is informed by your unique physiology. I use these same strategies in my own autoimmune journey, so I understand what works in real life.

Functional Medicine: Getting to the Root Cause

Functional medicine looks beyond symptoms to explore underlying contributors. Using your tracked data in the app, we can see how things like diet, stress, sleep, and activity correlate with symptom flares. When necessary, I can order lab tests to investigate gut health, nutrient levels, hormonal balance, and markers of inflammation. Combined with symptom tracking, these labs help us identify root causes and create a truly personalized plan for reducing symptoms and improving overall health. Common root causes include:

  • Gut health and microbiome balance

  • Chronic infections or environmental triggers

  • Nutrient deficiencies affecting immune function

  • Hormonal imbalances influencing inflammation

  • Nervous system dysregulation

For clients who would benefit, I integrate continuous glucose monitor (CGM) data into our app. This allows us to track blood sugar patterns in real time, identify triggers for inflammation or fatigue, and make precise nutrition and lifestyle adjustments. Using this data, we can tailor your plan to stabilize energy levels and reduce symptom flares.

Complementary and Alternative Therapies

Many clients benefit from therapies that enhance the body’s natural healing abilities:

  • Mind-body practices like yoga, meditation, prayer or sensory deprivation tank sessions.

  • Acupuncture, physical therapy, and massage

  • Sauna, hot tub, cold plunge or contrast therapy

  • Herbal and botanical support, integrated safely alongside medications

  • Education on advanced therapies including: LDN (low dose naltrexone, peptides, and stem cell therapy)

I integrate these therapies into my own routine, so I can guide clients on what is practical and effective.

Client Education

Helping you understand your body and your health is a core part of my approach. I provide ongoing education about:

  • How your immune system and hormones interact with inflammation and fatigue

  • The role of nutrition, gut health, and nutrient status in autoimmune management

  • How to read your app data, lab results, and CGM trends to make informed decisions

  • Safe and effective exercise strategies

  • Stress, trauma, and lifestyle factors that influence your immune response

  • How to seek further support

By teaching you the “why” behind each recommendation, you gain confidence and independence in managing your health. Education is not just about information—it’s about giving you tools to track, interpret, and respond to your body in real time, creating lasting lifestyle habits that support long-term wellness.

Working With Conventional Medicine

For clients on conventional treatments, my approach can help to reduce side effects and enhance effectiveness of conventional medications. I collaborate with healthcare providers when appropriate to ensure a safe, integrative approach.

For clients exploring alternatives or transitioning under medical supervision, we create structured plans that prioritize safety and long-term health.

Managing an autoimmune condition is deeply personal. My own experience, combined with my expertise as a functional medicine nurse, nutrition coach, and personal trainer, allows me to empathize and provide guidance that truly supports your body and lifestyle. With a 1.5-hour intake, we develop a personalized plan aimed at improved energy, reduced symptoms, and a sustainable lifestyle that nurtures both body and mind.
